Frequently asked questions
General
How much does it cost to paint a house?
For most homes around Longview and Vancouver, a full exterior repaint runs $5,200–$14,900 depending on size, siding and condition, and a whole-home interior runs $4.30–$12.40 per square foot of floor area. Use the price calculator for a range in a minute, then book a free estimate for a fixed price.
How long will my project take?
A typical exterior takes 4–8 working days; a 3-bedroom interior takes 3–6 days; a kitchen cabinet refinish takes about a week including cure time. Your proposal lists the planned duration and a confirmed start date.
What happens if it rains?
Exterior work needs dry surfaces and temperatures above the product minimum, usually 35–50°F. We watch the forecast, shift to prep or interior work when needed, and tell you the same day if the schedule changes.
My home was built before 1978. Is that a problem?
No, but it changes how we work. Pre-1978 homes may contain lead paint, so we follow EPA RRP lead-safe practices: containment, wet methods, HEPA cleanup and documentation. It adds some cost and time, and the calculator accounts for it.
How do I pay?
You sign the proposal online and pay a 30–40% deposit by card or bank transfer. The balance is due after the final walkthrough. Financing options will be listed here once available.
What does the warranty cover?
Exterior work carries a 5-year written warranty against peeling, blistering and flaking on surfaces we prepared and painted. Interior work carries a 2-year warranty. Full terms are on the warranty page.
Are you licensed and insured?
We are a registered Washington contractor and carry general liability insurance. Our license numbers are in the footer of every page and on the licenses page.
Do you work in Oregon?
Right now we serve Washington only. Oregon service will open once our Oregon CCB license is issued.
Interior Painting
How long does it take to paint a room?
A standard bedroom with walls only takes about a day including prep and two coats. Walls, ceiling and trim take 1.5–2 days.
Do I have to move out?
No. We work room by room and keep bedrooms usable at night. Low-odor, zero-VOC paints are available at no extra cost.
What sheen should I use?
Matte or eggshell on walls, flat on ceilings, satin or semi-gloss on trim and doors. We explain the trade-offs during the walkthrough.
Can you match my existing color?
Yes. We take a chip to the paint store for a computer match, or you can give us the brand and code.
Do you paint ceilings?
Yes. Ceilings are part of the Signature and Heirloom packages and can be added to Essential.
Exterior Painting
When is the exterior painting season?
Typically April through October. Modern paints can go on down to 35°F, so we stretch the season when surfaces are dry. Your proposal shows the planned week.
How often should I repaint?
Good prep and a premium paint lasts 8–12 years on fiber cement and 6–10 on cedar. Sun-facing sides go first; we can do a south-and-west refresh instead of a full repaint.
Do you spray or brush?
Both. Siding is sprayed and back-rolled so paint is worked into the surface. Trim, doors and railings are brushed.
What about moss and mildew?
The wash includes a mildewcide. Persistent shaded walls get a mildew-resistant topcoat.
Can you paint vinyl siding?
Yes, with vinyl-safe colors that do not warp the siding. Darker colors need a specific formula; we check before we quote.
Cabinet Painting
How long can I not use my kitchen?
Boxes are usable with care after 24 hours. Full kitchen is back in service in about a week. Keep a camp kitchen plan for the first three days.
Will the finish chip?
A catalyzed or hybrid enamel over bonding primer resists chipping as well as factory finishes. Normal wear at high-use edges is covered by the 2-year warranty.
Can you paint laminate or thermofoil?
Laminate yes, with a specific bonding primer. Peeling thermofoil needs the foil removed first; we assess it at the estimate.
What about oak grain?
You can keep the grain texture or have it filled for a smooth look. Filling adds about a day and is included in Signature and Heirloom.
Deck & Fence Staining
Transparent, semi-transparent or solid?
Transparent shows the most grain and lasts the least. Semi-transparent is the usual choice. Solid stain covers gray wood and old solid stain and lasts longest.
How often should I restain?
Every 2–3 years for horizontal surfaces, 4–5 for fences and railings.
Can you stain a new deck?
New pressure-treated wood should weather 2–3 months first. New cedar can be stained after a wash.
Commercial Painting & Property Managers
Can you do a unit in one day?
A standard one-bedroom with walls and ceilings in one color takes one day with a two-person crew. Two-bedroom units take 1–2 days.
Do you offer net-30 terms?
Yes for property management companies after the first two jobs.
Do you carry insurance?
General liability and workers' compensation. A certificate naming your company is sent on request.
Color Consultation
Is the consultation free with a project?
It is included in Heirloom packages and the fee is credited to any project you book within 90 days.
Can you help with an HOA submission?
Yes. We check your HOA palette and prepare the color sheet for the application.
Lead-Safe Painting
Does lead-safe work cost more?
Yes, roughly 30–60% more on the prep portion, which is why the calculator has a pre-1978 setting. Exact cost is in the proposal.
Do I need to leave the house?
Not usually. The work area is sealed. Children and pregnant women should stay out of that area until cleanup is verified.
Will you remove all the lead paint?
No. Lead-safe painting stabilizes and encapsulates. Full abatement is a separate specialty.
